Maritimo predicts new design will be the sensation

Industry legend Bill Barry-Cotter and his award-winning marque Maritimo have both been renowned for flying bridge designs, with one industry observer noting that Barry-Cotter had ‘written the book on flying bridge concepts.’

However, this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show will see the company undertake a radical move as it displays the first of a planned three-model range of European-styled cabriolet sport boats.

First of the range, a 60-footer (18.28-metres) will, according to sales and marketing manager Peter Jenkins, prove to be the sensation of the show.

‘This boat will be magnificent in every sense,’ he said, ‘from its luxurious and spacious interior to its performance on the water. Furthermore, it will retail at probably $1 million less than an equivalent imported boat. It’s going to take this show by storm,’ he added.

The Cabriolet 60, powered by dual 700hp C-12 Caterpillar Marine Diesels, will go as hard and fast as it looks, easily topping 32 knots at wide open throttle.

Although it may take centre stage on the Maritimo display, flying bridge enthusiasts have not been overlooked.

In addition to the Cabriolet 60, Maritimo will be unveiling another new model, the Maritimo 50 Sport Fish, a smaller version of the hard-charging battlewagon, the Maritimo 550, which will also be on display.

The all-new 50 Sport Fish will be powered by dual QSM 11 Cummins Marine Diesels, each generating 715 horsepower, while the larger 550 will lead a field out to the black marlin grounds thanks to a pair of C-18 Caterpillar Marine Diesels punching out 1000hp each.

Another guaranteed to attract interest will be the majestic Maritimo 60, Australia’s 2005 Boat of the Year, her engine room boasting the dual C-18 Caterpillar arrangement.

The Maritimo display also comprises the Sky Lounge concept which, Jenkins says, has ‘re-defined flying bridge designs.’

On display will be the popular Maritimo 52 Sky Lounge and, in a first release, the same concept employed aboard the Maritimo 48 Sky Lounge.

The standard Maritimo 48 has gone on to become the best-selling ‘big boat’ in industry history.

Both the Sky Lounge craft offer Cummins power, the 52 with 715hp QSM 11 engines, the 48 with the reliable and fuel efficient QSM 660hp set up.

No visit to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show could possibly be termed comprehensive without calling by the Maritimo display.
